Actually worked-owned and worker-controlled businesses was never tried in any of those countries. I consider myself actually to be a capitalist, not a socialist, and I love to point out to self-styled "socialists" and "leftists" and "progressives" and "Democrats" that all those Communist countries, and also the fascists, outlawed workers' unions.
What is preventing workers from creating the next Apple or Tesla? For two main reasons: (1) Elite-controlled corporations cheat workers and use the savings to undercut prices from worker-businesses and get ahead in research and marketing, just like China's been doing to American/European/Japanese/SouthKorean businesses with like Huawei and DJI selling their products at below cost. (2) The more a business borrows, the more the business can outcompete others short-term. Worker businesses can't borrow as much because they have fewer or no board seats to give to lenders, which is one common thing lenders demand.
