Do you speak any language other than English? Because I do, some that are very, very different. You trying to tie this to imperialism is ridiculous. All languages have names for other some nations (especially the ones that are closest) that are very different from the names those other nations have for themselves. This is a universal feature of human language. It has nothing to do with imperialism. And in case you forgot, until 100 years ago, Turkey was the one who was an empire, and they’re still in the slow process of eradicating ethnicities like Assyrians, Armenians & Kurds. Should Germany go around insisting everyone say “Deutschland”? No. That would be ridiculous, and the current fascist Turkish government’s attempts to do that same thing are nothing more than bullying.
