Gaza was not operating as an open air prison. That's ridiculous. Hamas had full internal autonomy in Gaza, and as a result of the blockade (justifiable, to prevent attacks from Gaza), Gaza was in a situation no different from any landlocked country. For most of human history people never went more than a few miles from their birthplace during their lifetimes. Gazans' situation has been no different. That's not prison. That's normal life.
