Honestly, couples' counseling would work best only if the counselor is not one counselor but rather two: a man and woman married couple who're counselors, who counsel other couples together as a wife-husband team. I as a man am reticent to do couples counseling if the counselor is just one woman, and I would understand if a wife would feel like she isn't fully understood if the counselor were just one man.
