"It should be apolitical and must be apolitical." - What makes something "political" is whether different groups of people disagree about values. People don't always disagree, and when they don't, it's not political. But it is the legitimate purpose of democratically elected government to implement the values upon which they're elected regardless of whether some people (a minority, since those officials were elected democratically) disagree or not. It's the people who disagree who make it political. And it's not even wrong to make it political; it's normal. There's nothing wrong with being political, just like there's nothing wrong with having bias. Again, you're pretending that you can be apolitical, but every time you disagree with something, you're making the issue political! "Apolitical" is a standard you only enforce on your opponents.
