Look, this SPQR channel has a lot of great articles, but whenever you authors talk about languages, wow, you fall flat on your face. Modern French is as different from Latin as modern Greek is from 0 A.D./B.C. Greek. Any linguist would tell you this. Therefore, modern Latin survives just as much in its child languages French, Spanish, etc., as ancient Greek does in modern Greek. The difference is that Latin survives in many, many daughter languages, whereas ancient Greek survives in only one official variety: the official Athenian Greek of modern Greece. So, actually, Latin has survived far better than Greek.
