The Republican oligarchy's already been in power half the time since the party organization was founded maybe late 1850s. And yet the republic still exists. And at the same time, there's always been an oligarchy. In fact, republican government is how oligarchy and democracy co-exist: That's how it was in the Roman Republic, how it is now, and the practical effect of TDG is to have an oligarchy as well.
