This issue seems the like the least difficult fix. We need a society and economy that does not expect lawyers, or medical students/doctors, to destroy their work/life balance. When it comes to doctors, that likely means that the American Medical Association needs to stop its guild protectionism and let medical schools quadruple their enrollment and states quadruple their licensing. Law school needs to go down to 2 years and accept more students; that 3rd year is unnecessary and makes it less affordable. The key question is: Are there people smart enough to become doctors/lawyers who aren't becoming doctors/lawyers because the schools and licensing slots are too few? I think so.
